Parasmani Dham is one of the most revered and spiritually significant Shiva temples of the Mithila region, located in Rahua-Sangram village under Madhepur Block of Madhubani district, Bihar. Since ancient times, this holy place has remained a center of devotion, faith, and spiritual awakening for devotees across Mithila and nearby regions.
According to local legends, oral traditions, and historical beliefs, the origins of this sacred site are associated with the Gupta period. The temple is especially known as the place where Saint Shiromani Baba Lakshminath Gosain attained spiritual enlightenment and divine realization through intense meditation and penance. Because of this spiritual connection, the land of Parasmani Dham is considered highly sacred among devotees.
It is widely believed that anyone who visits this holy shrine with a pure heart and true devotion receives the blessings of Baba Parasmaninath, and their sincere wishes are fulfilled. The peaceful atmosphere, spiritual energy, and divine presence of the temple attract thousands of devotees throughout the year.
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Parasmani Dham hosts a grand gathering every Sunday, where devotees from nearby villages and distant places come for worship, prayers, and blessings. The Makar fair held on Sundays during the holy month of Magh is especially famous throughout the Mithila region.
The magnificence of Parasmani Dham reaches its peak during Maha Shivratri. Beginning from Shivratri and continuing for four to five days, the temple becomes a vibrant center of religious and cultural celebrations. Bhajans, kirtans, grand aartis, devotional programs, cultural performances, competitions, and community events are organized with great enthusiasm by local residents and devotees. Thousands of pilgrims gather during this period to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.
Historical accounts suggest that the ancient Shivling of the temple was stolen several decades ago. Later, with the support and dedication of local devotees, a new Shivling was established and the present temple structure was rebuilt through collective community efforts.
Even today, the temple is maintained and managed with devotion and dedication by the local community. In recent years, due to its growing spiritual importance and popularity, government attention toward the temple has also increased. There is a strong belief among local people that Parasmani Dham may soon receive recognition under Bihar or Mithila tourism initiatives.
Parasmani Dham is not merely a temple; it is a symbol of Mithila's spiritual identity, cultural heritage, and timeless devotion.
